PORTLAND, Ore. – (May 3, 2012) - Downtown Portland’s H5O bistro & bar announces the hiring of Ron Baker as executive chef of the urban contemporary restaurant. Baker brings more than 15 years of professional culinary experience, including executive chef positions in various restaurants and catering companies throughout the Pacific Northwest.

“As a foodie town, Portland offers a very competitive culinary scene and with Ron’s direction and experience, we look forward to the continued growth and development of the restaurant,” said Terry Hanley, general manager of Hotel Fifty. “His experience in the kitchen, combined with his enthusiasm for preparing, plating and presenting exquisite cuisine make him a great asset to our team.”

Seeking to introduce Portlanders and other foodies to the downtown restaurant, Baker’s vision for the downtown Portland restaurant is to combine locally farmed ingredients with flavors and textures influenced by his years of travel around the world, while maintaining the “urban contemporary” feel of H5O bistro & bar.

Most recently, Baker was the Executive Chef of Devil’s Food Catering in Portland, Ore., where he was responsible for managing and training kitchen staff, overseeing purchasing, menu development and sales meetings. Additionally, he grew organic herbs and produce used on the menus and provided client services including menu tastings, recipe development and class instruction.

Baker studied at Christchurch Technical Culinary Institude in New Zealand and brings experience from kitchens including the Oregon Club in West Lynn, Ore.; Red Star Tavern and Food in Bloom in Portland, Ore.; Rondevous Restaurant in Falls City, Idaho; Patina in Hollywood; Fleur de Vin in Pasadena, Calif. and Pascal’s in Newport Beach, Calif.

H5O bistro & bar is located inside Hotel Fifty in downtown Portland, directly across from Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The urban contemporary restaurant opened in 2008 and has been recognized as one of Portland’s “Best Scenic View” restaurants on the OpenTable.com® Diners’ Choice list.
